We have just learned that Hill 30, the historical battlefield associated with the liberation of Carentan in June 1944 is going to be partly destroyed by an large industrial project built by the dairy products company, Les Maîtres Laitiers du Cotentin. The project has the support of the committee of the villages of Carentan .

The battles on Hill 30, ‘Bloody Gulch and ‘Bloody Gully’ have become known worldwide and veterans of the 101st Airborne, accompanied by their families now visit every year in rememberance of those brave young men who gave their lives there in the liberation of France.

The Manor of Donville, which now has an archaeological museum of the remains of this terrible battle, welcomed two veterans, Robert Noody ‘Fox’ Company and Lou Vecci ‘Easy’ Company, 2nd Battalion 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment on June 4, 2011. They visited the camp of re-enactors assembled to commemorate the battle of Bloody Gulch.

Robert Noody knocked-out a German Self-propelled gun with a ‘bazooka’ on June 12, 1944 in a field which will be transformed into a factory!
We cannot accept the destruction of an area of such historical importance and natural beauty and we request your intervention so that this site is preserved and so that this large construction project is moved to another zone of Carentan and Méautis where its impact on the countryside will not destroy part of our region’s history.
